Thirst (2012) (4′)

for sax quartet

read by the Haller Quartet, University of Oregon
Thirst is first of all a narrative of melodies. The heavy emphasis on melody aids the pleading character of the opening and the valedictory of the ending, two characters a bit predictable in their sequence (dark-to-light) but nuanced in their presentation (the pain and pleading still coloring the triumph).

We thirst for all sorts of things—things that may be impossible to fill on—but regardless, we thirst on.
